Not preforming on Vance and Hines Slip ons on Harley Davidson XL883 Sporster 07 model?

If I install the v%26amp;h slip on's on a harley davidson 07 sportster 883 do I need to do anything else to the bike?

My dealer has recently installed some with no other modifications and it seems to have affected the performance of my bike? What do you recommend?

I have now had my bike in 3 or 4 times and my dealer refuse to accept that this is the case. Insisting that I should... "keep the revs up".

What is the answer?|||I agree with yo-han. Take it to another dealer and see what they say|||If the back pressure of the V+H is similar to the stock mufflers an adjustment of the fuel air ratio is *not* always necessary.

An easy way to tell if your bike is lean is to run it hard, shut it off w/o idling and inspect the spark plugs for color.

The plugs should develop a tan colored residue build up around the electrode.

If your plugs are light or clean, the fuel air ratio is too lean.

Back fire on deceleration is a sign of lean as is increased engine temps.

A pair of slip ons will not make a significant improvement in performance ,so if you were expecting a big difference ,you were mistaken.

In any event, the plugs will tell the truth that the dealer can't argue with.|||I have a 2007 XL883L that I have changed the stock pipes to drag pipes. Since the 07's has EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection), you really should have the EFI remapped.

You can purchase Dynojet Power Commander III for about $280.00. This gets plugged into the existing EFI, which is located under your seat.

Just Google 'DynoJet' and you will find them.

There are other EFI remapping software out there.

The 07 Harleys, were set-up to run lean, so by modifying the pipes, your bike will require more fuel to run at optimum performance.|||As you probably know your bike is detuned from the factory in order for your bike to meet federal emission test standards.Putting new pipes/muffler is only half the battle. Your bike runs too lean and so you need the fuel management system too. It costs about $220. Go to Vance and Hines web site. I think you need Fuel Pack #1020-0315. Dealer cannot tell you about it because it's not Harley and might be some state law EPA he would be breaking? Sounds like a dealer with no sack if that is the case. Go to independent qualified mechanic. I'm assuming you have an injected engine. If you have a carburetor you just need to install 1 size bigger jets.|||if your dealer doesn't realize it needs re-mapping, he's not much of a dealer, ask to talk to a tech instead of a service adviser, the guy you're talking to is a clown.

the ideal way to remap for your lean condition is to do it on a dyno. i would suggest before going through all that you put in a high flow air filter and be done with it, you might otherwise try that later on and end up having the same problem over again, so do both and compensate for both now.

if your dealer doesn't have a dyno or still doesn't know what to do, you can try another shop, or buy your own programmer (though it won't be as accurate as having it mapped by dyno)|||OK everyone... listen up... for the last time (especially the rejetting commentors) ALL HARLEYS AFTER '06 ARE EFI!!! You can no longer buy a carbed HD... GET IT? The map is downloaded from Corporate and dealers need digital technology to do this... SOME DON"T HAVE IT. If you are going to fool with pipes on new HD's YOU MUST get a race tuner from HD or a thundermax or similar and have someone with KNOWLEDGE of these product tune via laptop. Price of a pipe change is now the pipes plus the tuner (hardware) plus the tuner (guy) plus the install. $$$$$. Your warranty is viod and technically you are illegal.|||1. you bought a harley...you obviously didn't buy it for performance.....

now that i've properly ragged on you, it's a simple matter of getting more fuel in your fuel/air mixture...the loss of backpressure from the stock pipes is making your bike run even leaner than it was originally...

if you're fuel injected, get your fuel re-mapped...

if you're carburated, you'll need to get re-jetted....|||Do us all a favor and put the stock pipes back on.

Ok, if you won't do that then get it rejetted, the free flowing pipes are causing it to run lean.

Also, get a new dealer, the service guy you are dealing with sucks.|||Replace your dealer and go to an ind. shop that knows how to tune a bike the HD Dealer is to busy selling acc.

Then teii them to remap and retune it

Yeah I know but HD Dealers are a joke|||First thing I would do is change dealers. Todays Harleys come from the factory set really lean because of emissions. After market pipes can make them run even leaner, which ain't good. It should be richened up.|||Well ,dam settle down David K. Another option maybe to sh!t can the efi and slap in an S%26amp;S carb. Just an Idea. Cheers|||the free-er flowing exhaust changed the fuel/air mixture, needs re-jetted|||First of all it would be hard to notice a performance gain on a engine that has under 40 HP stock. The claimed "performance gain" of air cleaner and exhaust upgrades on this Harley is approx. 5% or 1.5HP. You are being too hard on the dealer. It will take ALOT more than that to make that pig run. My advise is sell it buy a stock Victory and more than double your horsepower.|||Well, you DID buy a harley, %26amp; you're complaining????
