Do You still have the stock air cleaner or hi-flo? Does idle speed change at all?...if so, when? Describe in more detail what is does and when, all the time or intermittent. How many miles on bike? There could be various things causing this.

Give as many details about the bike and symptoms that you can think of?

EDIT: about the above answer of Advanced Timing......not possible.....timing is NON ADJUSTABLE and controlled by the ignition module. If timing is off, there is a bad sensor or ignition module. And generally, if the module is bad at all, it will not run...period.

Hey Magz......I SHOULD have stated not possible with a stock HARLEY.....the ONLY way possible is to install an aftermarket ignition

timing on the newer HD's is BUILT IN to the module on carbed bikes and ECM on injected bikes.......what controls the timing is the crank %26amp; map sensors, which are NOT adjustable.........

older HD's however,....the EVO's had an adjustable cam sensor plate that controlled overall timing but could not contol the advance curve.............

EDIT for sandman.......carbed HD's don't have TPS....only injected......certain carbed Buells do though......you may want to have HD plug yours into their computer and ZERO the TPS and reset the Air/Fuel Value......HD is the ONLY place that can do this...it's done through Digital Technician....HD ONLY daignotic computer system linked directly to the factory....if you have a Screamin Eagle Super Tuner or Power Commander, you can adjust the "acellerator pump" feature for better throttle response.2005 Heritage Softail Harley.Starts and runs fine. After riding it's hard to start back.Flooded? I'lll guess it's a bad battery..when you hit the starter it turns over but there is a voltage drop in the wire to the ignition.. it screws up the ignition circuit..affecting timing..this is a problem that happens more than people think..

some think electronic ignition ether works perfectly or not at all..not so..lots of in between2005 Heritage Softail Harley.Starts and runs fine. After riding it's hard to start back.Flooded? Carb? Ideas?
is the timing advanced?

Usually a hard start when hot is a symptom of advanced timing.

edit: hey v-twin... my answer is factual, I advance the timing in every vehicle i get...
my ultra does that...i think the throttle position sensor is very sensitive, and grabbing the throttle effects it when you start...try pushing the button without even touching the throttle
